Plant Sale Follow-Up

On Sunday, May 19, we held our Annual Plant Sale. We had over 1,200 healthy plants for sale from Master Gardeners and other community members’ gardens. Plant a Row with Seacoast NH 4-H and Pollinator Pathways NH were also there and provided information on their programs.

Master Gardeners were available to talk with residents about sun, shade, and ground cover perennials, vegetables, house plants, and we answered any and all gardening questions. Throughout the year, NH residents can always contact ASK UNH Extension at 1-877-398-4769 or email answers@unh.edu to have all their gardening questions answered.

The proceeds from our sale are used to support community gardening projects, UNH Extension Free Seeds for Education, and our K-12 School Gardening Grants.

Since 2019, we have funded twenty three grants.

This past Wednesday, five members of the plant sale committee visited one of the schools who received a grant this spring.

We had a wonderful visit with the third graders at Barrington Elementary School touring their gardens and talking with them about gardening.

There is nothing more rewarding than listening to a new enthusiastic generation of gardeners.

Any plants not sold at our sale were passed along to The Friends of the Barrington Public Library plant sale on Saturday, June 1. If you still need some plants, plan a visit.

Thank you to our members who volunteered their time to plan and work the sale and the many residents who come back year after year because together we are making a difference in Strafford County.

Oh, yes, you are making a difference! Hats off to you! (Gardening hats, that is!) Those are some very lucky kids there.
